Sun Halo Over Santiago, Chile!

Today I walked out of the lab to see a group of people looking up and pointing up at the sun. To my surprise, it was a sun halo they were looking at!

I saw quite a few atmospheric optical phenomena in Alaska, since they are formed by ice crystals in the air. So I was slightly surprised to see one in 30C weather. But it would also make sense that conditions in the upper atmosphere can be drastically different that in lower altitude.

Here is a photo of ice pillars taken in Alaska almost 2 years ago...
