A fairly old town in France

The Cité de Carcassonne has been a fortified town since the 3rd century, but most of what you see now is medieval, so not that old.

I didn't have much time for photos as I was just passing through (some 20 years ago), but I managed to get it on film (yes, film) with just one tourist sticking his head into the frame:

It was a blisteringly hot day, but some of the inhabitants (yes, people actually live there) didn't seem to be bothered by the heat, judging from their attire:

If you ever do, also visit the Pyrenees; quite a few medieval towns there, some abandoned.
