An Object of Unknown Purpose

Somebody went to some length to erect this structure in a park:

Olympus Stylus 1s, 60mm, ISO100, f5.6, 1/500s

I had no idea what it was in aid of, and nor had the other bystanders.

As usually happens in such circumstances, many theories were put forward emphatically and with great aplomb, because nobody wanted to admit they hadn't got a clue what it was for or how it worked, if at all.

It was much like being at an economics conference, only cheaper.

hmh looks interesting, i have no clue either

Once read this definition: When its of no use for anything else, it must be art. I think this may apply here ;-)

I agree, a very odd structure indeed. What in the world it is, is very beyond me. And I gave it some serious Schteinnthought too. All I could come up with was some sort of masochistic exercise machine, that is missing parts. Or part of a long lost well with only dip-chains, no dipper.

Could it be some weird type of art sculpture?

Could well be; "art" is what I usually go for as well when I don't know what something is 8-).

Was there any evidence of another one some distance away @ocrdu?

I don't think so, but let's say there was; what are you thinking of?

Some sort of children's play ground equipment. I thought chain bridge, as it looks like 2 uprights are missing, but then I noticed there wasn't a mark where a chain might have been on the other post.

🤷🏻‍♂️

Whatever it is that chain is an important part. :-)
