Damselflies: Shiny Metallic

in photography •  7 years ago

I have posted about these about a month ago, but they should be in this series, so here they are again, with different photos.

These are spreadwings (Lestidae), pantserjuffers in Dutch. Most damselflies sit with their wings folded backwards; these usually don't fold their wings all the way back, hence the name.

There are several species of them, and they are hard to tell apart; I usually can't.

I was told this is a willow emerald damselfly (Chalcolestes viridis), houtpantserjuffer in Dutch:

More of the unidentified ones:

Getting ready to mate:

This can be a crowded affait, with two pairs sharing a straw or a blade of grass.

In this photo, the second one from the top actually hit the one below in the back of the head. I thought that was very funny, but you had to be there, I suppose:

Heart-shaped mating (while looking into the lens):

That teal color in the first two shots is beautiful. They're very unique-looking... great shots!

Thank you!

So that is what "teal" is. I'm not very good with those newfangled colour names. Must be a man thing 8-).

It is necessary to try very hard to photograph this :)

It takes some time, yes 8-).
