The little ones' turn

in photography •  7 years ago  (edited)

With the big bullies gone and no longer a threat, it was time for these little ones, the azure damselflies (Coenagrion puella), to make some offspring:

Various positions are available for this, all of them putting the Kamasutra to shame:

After mating, the male doesn't let go; they fly coupled together to the nearest pool to deposit eggs.

Because of the drought we are seeing in the peat bog, the pools are small, and some places in them seem to be more popular than others. Things can get quite crowded:

Still, this looks promising for their survival as a species in this peat bog.

Thanks for watching!

That last image is really wild. Almost like they are spelling out some message to us about nature and survival. Or more likely, a poem extolling the virtues of a day without Blue Emperors.

@ocrdu great photos!

Looking at these it's really hard not to help but ponder upon and try to put the entirety of humanity in perspective.

We share so much in common with the natural world and even with the most basic forms of life on this planet.

Although humans are much more complex than insects, we're not all that different either.

Thanks!

Indeed. There was a hidden comment on bullies in there somewhere 8-).

Such dazzling colours!

That last photo is amazing! That is a carnal carnival, for sure! It looks like a blue water fountain. Really a great shot to help people understand the damselflies. You have such a great collection of images of them and the dragonflies.

Thanks! Still hunting for more.

You're welcome. I wonder what fraction of known regional species you've captured with your camera. It's got to be pretty high!

Joined steemit just yesterday, and I'm shocked by the amount of low quality, clickbait, hurried, badly written, unoriginal material. Yours is a ray of light—a pair of dancing damselflies in an ocean of peat bog, if you will! Also some very calming energy coming from this post! Just loved it, keep up the good work!

Thank you! 8-)

Interesting facts ocrdu. Now I know more about these little guys and gals.👍😊

wow again really wonderful pictures my friend ;)

Thank you.

Love the striking colours of these dragonflies!

Really stunning photos. So delicately beautiful.
That sure was something party in the bog!
I hope they survive as a species, so many insects are being wiped out because of pesticides etc.

Stunning color!

cool photos.
