Photoshop Before and Afters

I Like to Learn

I am by no means a Photoshop guru. I am much more at the noob level. Although I end up a jack of all trades and a master of none, I like to learn things.

Value in the How's and the Why's

I think it is interesting when the artist explains some of the thought process used in making creative decisions. To my mind, this is often as important as the practical method used to achieve the effect.

Original on Left - Photoshopped on Right

Real World Real Time

So these aren't the best photos ever, but they are ones that I'm working with in real time. The cool thing about photography is there is always something interesting to shoot. This was a faded flower that was stuck on my fence. Not to much to do on this. I usually like to start with increasing contrast. Upped the clarity a bit and cleaned up the background using levels.

A bit of cropping, contrast, saturation and cleaned up background using black levels.

Best Advice

My best advice is to not use a heavy hand. Never has the saying "less is more" been more true. However, I realize there are those that really like to change things up. That is the nice thing about art, there is no right answer. Be true to your own style. I suppose it is much like lipstick, some prefer less some like a bunch more.

Here was just a matter of increased contrast and lightening it up a tad. Increased saturation.

Quick

I didn't spend many more than 2 or 3 minutes each. I was just doing them for this quick demonstration. Photoshop is a powerful tool. Gimp is a nice free alternative.

I like some photos without a heavy hand of editing. But I do like some of the filters that change an image -- some really evoke more emotion. They aren't so much photographs as images then.

Yes I agree. I am surely not a purest in any sense. I appreciate both. I look at the heavily edited pics as artworks, just like a painting.

Maybe I can look into gimp... thanks for the tips

I've found Gimp to be a great free tool that has all the functionality most of us require. Thanks for the post @old-guy-photos.

I like playing with gimp.

Since i used my android tab.. I just simply shoot and post..

Then cheers🍺🍺👻

I haven't tried gimp but I do use fotoflexer.com. They do have better details after you altered them. The details are more clear and sharp.

I think it depends on the photos...

Interesting post!
