Today our Hawk brought his Son!

in photography •  7 years ago

This morning "Horace" appeared unexpectedly to sit on the high tree!
We are in winter now in South Africa and even in summer "Horace" only comes around mid morning. This morning however he was unusually early.
There are two reasons for this, one is that the birds know that it's going to rain today and two is that "Horace" brought along a new visitor!
But let me tell you the story with an amazing ending!

As usual "Horace" looks great on the high tree!

And there he goes!

But wait! There was a huge commotion in the tree behind me that we call the Loerie tree!

Guess who? Yep! This is "Horace's" youngster! Horace junior! All of the Loeries and other birds escaped with a loud noise and the landing of Horace junior was the cause for the racket!

But now I will show you something totally unbelievable!

An inquisitive Loerie youngster appeared to have a look at this strange bird!

And then a second Loerie youngster appeared behind Horace junior. to also take a peep.

Suicide I thought and I stepped closer in case Horace junior attacked the harmless Loeries! What an easy meal a Loerie youngster would make for this prestigious hunter. (You can see Horace junior looking at me)
But nothing happened! Believe me when I say that nothing happened. The Loeries decided Horace junior was harmless and Horace junior for some reason didn't attack them.

Had the Loeries seen an earlier photo that I took of Horace Junior in their company, they would have fled for their lives!
Let me show you the photo!

Pure killer don't you think? And I don't think the peeping young Loerie could see Horace junior's face.

So for now we see a very improbable truce, but we all know that soon these youngsters will become adults and also sworn enemies. Today the Loeries had a miraculous escape from certain death. I wonder what would have happened if the old man, "Horace" was about! I am still rattled by what I saw!
Hope you enjoyed the post!

How many times did we as humans not come close to mortal danger without even knowing it! Only later to look back and to realize that we were protected in our naivety Oh, yes, there was one that stepped closer to us in these situations, one to protect us against the danger! The Lord himself.

Never seen a bird like this before! Thank you so much for sharing!

Glad to introduce the hawk to you my friend! Only a pleasure to share it! Blessings! @for91days

Thanks for sharing this great photos and the story behind them. It is incredible how we are often protected from our own stupidity or lack of knowledge about a particular matter. I agree that often the Lord divinely intervenes to keep us safe.

It is when you practice retrospection that you see the hidden hand of the Lord on so many dire occasions! I simply love to give all of the glory and the credits in my life to him! Thank you for the kind comment! Blessings! @sumatranate

Completely agree. May His name be exalted!

Very cool. They're beautiful birds! I live in the USA and about 2 months ago my wife saw a bald eagle in our backyard. It's rare to see one where I live in North Carolina. She was able to get a few shots of it with her camera.

I was just about to ask if your wife had her camera to take the shots, but I see that she did! Congrats, as the unexpected occurs so regularly. If I think in my life how many times I have missed an ideal opportunity through mainly gaping instead of shooting, I could shoot myself! Blessings! @hopfarmnc

I am in awe of your photographic skills evidenced by these wonderful shots (camera). Watching the interaction between birds of different species can be a past-time in itself. The view from my window is far less dramatic that which you must have to capture these birds.

I am outside most of the time and although we stay in a small complex, there is a high tree that the birds like and also some other trees. The inquisitive manner of the Loeries surprised me, but I realized that they are youngsters and they don't yet realize the danger that the hawk represents! Thank you for the kind comment! Blessings! @isabeldorastorey

Wow what a momentous occasion for you (envy) unusual sighting that is for sure!

Always told as a great story unfolds, have a wonderful day Stephen.

Thank you Lady Joan and as stated, I was "gobsmacked" to see the stupidity or bravery or naivety of the young Loeries! Their parents has kicked them out, as they are of age to feed themselves and I am sure that they will soon learn about the dangers out there! May you also have a great and peaceful evening! Blessings! Btw. I didn't comment and vote on your post in #teamsouthafrica, as I thought that it would be worth more to do it in #quartor. @joanstewart
