ColorChallenge - Monday Red - Your Friendly Hydrant

in photography •  8 years ago

I took this pic without really thinking about it and only later started to really love it.

2016-02-26 16.20.jpg

Fire hydrant in downtown Abu Dhabi in front of the something or another 12 star palace bunker 20k/night hotel.

Love its classic American styling in front of the out of this world skyscrapers. Note the marble plate it's sitting on (!) these guys have really lost it long ago. Anyway, driving on marble is quite fun and glittery at night.

Captured with HTC ONE Z710e.

Wow... I really like how you positioned the photo to make a high rise out of the hydrant. Great perspective... Thank you for sharing...

Glad you like it, never really looked at it like that but now that you mentioned it...

Great photo!!!

great shot. It's also interesting because it seems the hydrant sways to the left, and the buildings to the right - all while the horizon is completely level. Great shot (and perfect color green - sometimes green in photos can be distracting)

Thanks man. Actually the 'field' has a slight downward slope which in combination with the background probably tricks the eye into tilting the hydrant.

I do like the green as well and you're right it's hard to get it right.

It's all an optical illusion on that photo. Great shot. Ya, green is tough. Sometimes I take a great shot, but there is so much green and it's this strange green-yellow-brown color. Did the camera just create that color or did you mess with the green channel in photoshop?

I try to stay away from messing with individual colors as that seriously manipulates the original shot. Sometimes it can't be avoided as in the case with the red Audi I just posted cuz the color is just too much for the camera lense.

With this shot I had the luck of a cloudy summer sky so no overcast but also no direct sunlight that messes with the grass in the way you described plus the HTC lense is very good at capturing vibrant colors if not the best of its generation.

cloudy days can be amazing. Annnd, I'm jealous of your phone-cam.

Dude, HTC ONE Z710e...check the prices it's ancient. Used prices around 50-100 bucks, it's made from one piece of aluminum and basically indestructible. Trust me I milled the paint off of mine to get a shiny polished all aluminum finish, it survived no issues.

By the way nice touch with the polished bottle, thought never even entered my mind.

I've got a Nexus 5x. I love it, but I'm always looking for the best phone camera. However, my mom needs a phone camera so for $50-100 maybe I'll look for your HTC ONE. She still has an old flip phone. :/
