Kupala Night - a Slavic holiday associated with the summer solstice of the sun, celebrated during the shortest night of the year, which falls on June 21-22. In the Anglo-Saxon countries under the name Midsummer, in Germanic Mittsommerfest. The Catholic Church, unable to eradicate the annual celebrations of pagan Sobótka from the Slavic beliefs, has attempted to assimilate the feast with Christian ritual (hence the later vigil of St. John - commonly known as the St. John's Day, which at that time contained many borrowings from the earlier feast - From 23 to 24 June.
