Reptile Photography Contest: 25 SBI shares and upvotes in prizes!

in photography •  5 years ago  (edited)

Hi there my Steemian friends and followers!

Following the great success of the Insect Photography Contest that I hosted about a month ago, I am coming with another big photo challenge dedicated to animals today.

This time around, we will take a closer look at... REPTILES! :)

That is right. Reptiles is a large class of animals that includes lizards, snakes, turtles, crocodilians and two less known orders tuatara and amphisbaenians.

So what animals we want to see here? To name a few, let me say, for example: alligators, crocodiles, iguanas, caimans, turtles, tortoises, snakes, geckos, chameleons, basilisks, bearded dragons, Comodo dragons and much more.

To give you some inspiration, let me show you a bunch of random reptile photos that I have taken at different places during my travels.

As for the format of the photo contest, it will be same as the last one. There will be 5 winners who will get 5 SBI shares each from me and there will also be 5 runners-up who will get my full upvotes on their entries, which means that as many as 10 participants will be rewarded.

The rules also remain unchanged and simple:

1) Only 1 entry (photo) per person.
2) Only your own photo.
3) Add a short description to the photo (at least 20 words please).

Upvotes and resteems are not required but will be appreciated of course since I am, as always, funding the prizes from my own pocket.

As I am expecting a great response to the contest again, I might ask some new participants to prove their ownership of the submitted entries in case of doubt to keep the contest as fair and honest as possible.

Also, I promised to tag some of my fellow photography enthusiasts and animal lovers who might be interested in this contest and whom I would like to see joining it so let me do so: @jpphotography, @worldcapture, @borran, @r2cornell, @pardinus, @betterthanhome, @jaki01, @derangedvisions, @valth, @liltammy, @itchyfeetdonica, @mrprofessor, @jjprac, @adetorrent, @evecab, @discovereurovelo, @axeman @shaka, @old-guy-photos, @dswigle, @rynow, @sallybeth23, @kus-knee, @qwerrie, @carnad, @flamingirl, @world-travel-pro and others. Cannot wait to see your entries guys :)

You can start submitting your reptile photos in the comment section below from now until Wednesday (July 24), 8:00 P.M. CET.

I am looking forward to checking your submissions :) Have a wonderful day and keep on steeming!

Hi, thanks for mentioning me! :)
Unfortunately, recently I didn't make any nice photos of reptiles in the wild.
However, not long ago we were visiting the zoo in our city where I also took some reptile pictures.
As entry I choose the black-tailed python (Python molurus) below:

Woow, very impressive shot! Thank you. And no worries, zoo photos count too ;) (even though I know that you, just like me, prefer photographing animals in the wild ;)

Great shot!

Slepýš křehký (Anguis fragilis) je představitel beznohých ještěrek. Potkal jsem tohoto krasavce na silnici, tak jsem ho odnesl do trávy, aby ho nepřejela auta.

Slepys.jpg

Anguis fragilis is a representative of legless lizards. I met this handsome guy on the road, so I took him to the grass to keep him out of the car.

Parádní fotka, díky za účast :)

Díky, rád jsem se zúčastnil ;-)

Lovely pictures @phortun!

Grass snake, Natrix natrix.

We have two different snakes in Finland. The Common European Viper, which is poisonous and the Grass Snake as you can see in the picture. Grass Snakes aren't poisonous but they are very strong swimmers.

Look at this handsome guy :) Cool shot! Thanks for joining this challenge buddy.

Great contest. It was quite hard to choose a photo since a got a few. This is by far the biggest reptile I´ve ever seen in the wild. This is a massive Laze Monitor which I saw in the Ben Boyd Nationalpark in Australia. As I tried to get closer for a better shot, he was getting really angry.

Wooow, look at this guy! Beautiful. I have never seen a lizard like this. Can you pick just one of these two photos please? :)

I pick the first one. :)

my pleasure! thanks for mentioning. I have this right now in my pocket:

ku2msthets.jpg
was taken with Canon 350d +50mm 1.4

the photo is probably not a superb quality, but it’s hard to capture moments like this; you just click the shutter, hoping that at least something will remain in the frame of this brisk lizard. I managed to do just one take. But what an amazing process can be seen here! I believe, many have never seen it alive: the lizard is peeling off its old skin!

Wow, that was fast :) Thank you, very good entry!

Hi!

I just bump over this one of reptile animal that had a snake characteristic earlier morning today while me and my friends busy gardening in garden. But I couldn’t find the specific species of this kind of snake. Maybe some of us can clarify this type of snake. Very small one but beautiful skin color.

Interesting entry, thank you :) Can you just pick one of these shots please?

3amyu2f3tq.jpg I pick this one. 😁

Thanks for the mention! :) I immediately thought of this fellow seeing your contest theme! Here we go - my entry post.
I spotted this iguana at the coast on the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico. These lizards are pretty common sights when I visited that region.

Here's another one I saw as a pet on the island of Bali:

Amazing shots Donica, thank you so much for joining this contest :) Can you pick and submit just one of these two awesome photos please? :)

Hmmm, I'll pick the first one then. Though I prefer the second one with more details, I entered it before in another contest. :)

I like the second one better too ;) Feel free to submit the second one then, it is ok with me that you have already used in another contest ;) I have also used some of my shots on multiple occasions :D

nice photos :)

😍💙

jaaj, to je bobek, nejkrásnejší...a.k.a. just another shitty day in paradise🦎🌴😎

No jo, Rikísek si uměl užít den na pláži :)

Man, that's a great set of photos!! Where did you took the serpent one? Thank you for this great ideia and for tagging me, I would hate to have missed this one! And here goes my submission:

basil.jpg

This cool guy is a green basilisk (Basiliscus plumifrons). I found him basking in Tortuguero National Park, in Costa Rica. These are the guys that can run on water for short distances, that's why they are also known as Jesus Christ lizards! For this guy, no running thow, just enjoying some relax time. :)

Oh man, I would hate to have you missed this one, so glad you noticed the mention and joined :) I knew you would come up with a stunning entry and you just met my expectation :) We saw these guys in Costa Rica too but unfortunately, none of the photos I took is good :( Oh and that viper you asked about, is actually from Costa Rica too. Cahuita National Park ;)

Costa Rica went to the top of my favourite countries! Wildlife everywhere, a dream for me! One of my friends almost stepped on an eyelash viper a few meters from a restaurant where we had dinner in one of the nights! I missed Cahuita park; and I was reaallly lucky in Tortuguero, we got a local guide on a canoe trip, and I hadn't met anyone with such a sharp eye before, the guy could spot ANYTHING in the middle of al the foliage! Thank you again for the great contest!

Same here! Costa Rica remains Nr. 1 destination for me for the same reason, absolutely amazing wildlife and well preserved nature everywhere :) Talking about snakes, I almost stepped on a coral snake during a canopy tour somewhere deep in the rainforest. Honestly, if Costa Rica wasn´t so expensive (at least when compared to other Latin American countries), I would probably live there :)

Yep, price is the only downside to the country! But I do want to go back, a lot of parks still to visit... and I want to see the quetzal!! 😉

Posing like a Pro😎💯

Hehehehe and he didn't seemed that troubled with our presence; luckily for us! ;)

Amazing shot!

Thank you! :)

Dude I really love your reptile collection. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of reptile shots , just a few. The little lizard for my entry was on my wall before, but that's another shot of him which I exclusively use for your contest :D Thanks for hosting and good luck to all others! Cheers :))

Nice one! Thank you so much for joining this contest Chris. I have no idea who this little fella is but I love the photo :)

This is a vibrant life

What a great competition. Here is my entry. A green iguana from the rainforest in Southern Costa Rica. I have not adjusted the colour on this guy, he really is this vibrant. His claws as you can see are pretty impressive even on this smallish one who is about 18 inches long.

IMG_6075.jpg

Wow! Stunning close up. I totally love iguanas. The green ones were quite rare in Yucatan where I lived though. Beautiful animal. Thank you for partipiation :) Pura Vida!

Mlok skvrnitý, obojživelník z čeledi mlokovitých... Není to plaz (reptiles, zadání, jsou plazi), ale je hezký. Fotografováno na Malé Fatře, kousek od chaty Na Grúni.

Fire salamander, amphibian of the salamander family ... It's not a reptile, but it's nice. Photographed in Malá Fatra, near the cottage Na Grúni.

Unfortunately, the snake had before undressing and so was a bit aggressive, so the model escaped before I could even set the lights: D

Jo a vybírám toto foto 121.jpg

Jen jsem vás chtěl potěšit :)

No teda, to jsi mě docela zaskočil :D Něco méně avantgardního bys tam neměl?
