This is a pinktail triggerfish that a friend caught on Oahu, Hawaii. There are about 40 species of triggerfish. One of them is the Hawaii state fish. They inhabit tropical and subtropical oceans. The triggerfish has a strong jaw with teeth adapted for crushing shells. If you look closely you can see the teeth of this triggerfish. Their typical diet consists of crustaceans, mollusks, sea urchins, and other creatures with shells or spines. Some also eat small fish, algae, and plankton. The body of this fish is distinctive and the various species have their own colorful designs. They are a common sight in Hawaii.
