On one of our Caribbean tours with the Navy Band, we played at a police station in St. Croix. It was hot, dry; all there was to drink was that thick syrupy sweet red soda, so I passed on that, in fact, I think we all did. But we got in there, set up, and played our gig to a very enthusiastic crowd. I remember that we played "Too Rolling Stoned" by Robin Trower that day, although I also recall we had to scoot out of there and play somewhere else with the larger showband setup. Likely, our schedule, as well as the very limited space of the venue, necessitated our choice of scheduling in our rock band, which was very fun to play with. At this time it was a quintet, with me on sax, but by the summer we added another very talented bebopping horn player; also, another of our friends, whom I'd played with in other Navy Bands far around the other side of the world, in Guam, also on tour with us, would plug in his Gibson and maybe even blow his trumpet. There was no shortage of talent or opportunity.
