I once slightly touched this by accident, not knowing how to really do it and that it had a name:"Cinemagraph".
According to wikipedia:
Cinemagraphs are still photographs in which a minor and repeated movement occurs, forming a video clip. They are published as an animated GIF or in other video formats, and can give the illusion that the viewer is watching an animation.
After running into this idea by accident, it caught my attention and all I wanted to do is create one myself. They are really awesome if you do it well! I didn't feel like grabbing my camera and going outside to find something to work with (also, it was almost midnight). So I went through some of the old videos I made.
This is the Powerscourt waterfall that I shot during my adventure in Wicklow. It is not the perfect clip for a cinemagraph, because the background is already without movement. But I used it to learn how to do it in photoshop. And to make it a bit more obvious that it isn't just a clip of a waterfall, I changed the colours of the background.
You can expect more of these in the future. This might become one of my new obsessions...
