Some time ago, I had the crazy idea of hanging a small digital camera from a kite and hacking its firmware to snap photos automatically every few seconds from high up. Nowadays, of course, you can buy a drone that can get you a steady shot without too much effort, but this was before you could buy any affordable drones, and different solutions were needed to get some aerial shots!
The kite wasn't that large, so as you can probably imagine, it took quite a bit of wind and effort to keep it flying with the camera attached to it by a string. This would also make it more shaky and difficult to get many good shots from above.
Most of the photos were a blur where you couldn't tell what you were even looking at, but some turned out all right if the camera took a photo just at the right moment while it wasn't wobbling around too much. Some shots below. Enjoy!

It didn't fall during this time, so it survived that adventure!
Unfortunately, when I did this again a few days later, the camera became detached from the kite at altitude, and didn't survive the fall.
