A family of prairie dogs has inhabited a nearby field. These are quite common here in Boulder County. I had my camera set up for capturing a hawk or other bird, but then I saw these guys. We've been having some really rainy weather lately, so these guys were out soaking up a few rays while the sun was peeking through the clouds.
This entire field was covered in little mounds. Without fail, there was always at least one on constant patrol, ready to sound the alarm to the colony of an attacking fox, hawk, or human. There were probably 50 or more visible at any one time. No doubt there were countless others napping in their burrows, or digging out new rooms and tunnels.
I can't say I know very much about these little creatures, but they sure are cute.

My car acted as the perfect blind. They didn't act like they could even see me. I called out to see what reaction I would get. They looked my way for a moment, then quickly got bored with me and carried on their daily activities.
This little guy was still nursing.
Wow, you were not kidding! They are so cute!!
They sorta remind me of Jolie. lol
