Dumpster diving

The practice of foraging in garbage that has been put out on the street in dumpsters, garbage cans, etc., for discarded items that may still be valuable, useful, or fixable.

“WE ARE MAD”...

tells the story of a group of young people living in Copenhagen, sourcing the majority of their food supplies from the trash bins of two nearby supermarkets. From organic to conventionally grown fruits and vegetables, cheese, coffee, olive oil, meats of all kind all the way to bottled water and screen wash for your cars - you can find it all!

Why do I Dumpster Dive?

  • Bring awareness on how much food is wasted with our current system...
  • Save the abundance of food that is wasted and share it...
  • Minimizing costs enabling me to be less dependant on Fiat and can Power Up 100%...
  • Great regular exercise and good karma... ;)

Thursdays Weekly Meet-ups:

We meet up on Thursdays in the middle of the city to share the food we've saved during the week. It's a great way to meet, connect and support each other. We meet between 6-7 pm at the same time as the decentralized farmers market that I've initiated!

dividerblue.png

I regularly invite friends over to share the abundance of food, been doing it for many years but now I also of course make sure to introduce them to the Steem blockchain! ;)

Amazing post man, I used to do a lot of dumpster diving in places like McDonald's in my country, back when I was younger, never found that amount of food though.

Always hated the idea of people throwing away food, makes me sick really.

Edit: Lizzy looks super cute :)

Food not bombs!

Nice post.I respect you very much because you contribute to steemit.I will do activities like you.I would like to extend the steemit.

cool, make sure to drop me a link when u do;)

Hats off to you and your huge heart for sharing! Loved the video and yes, it's crazy that people don't realize that expiration dates are simply a marketing ploy.

Yeah we have really lost the trust on our senses which is definitely much more accurate way of deciding if the food is good then an arbitrary date...

Omg...I don't know about shrimp..or fish of any kind. I have to give it to you though. Steem on!

lol yeah the ones I found was in some preservatives so shouldn't be a problem, they aoften throw it earlier the the expiry date and it's very cold here in Sweden now...

That is amazing if you really found all that good food in a dumpster.

I used to go to the electronic shops like RadioShack to do that as a kid. It was fun to discover the stuff in there and try to bring it back to life. I think a food place would be kind of nasty sometimes.

yeh some places can ofc be but here in Sweden it's mostly pretty nice and the quality is super!

That is absolutely amazing!! Who knew you could find so much food thrown away outside of grocery stores?! I applaud you for doing a good deed. If Steemit had awards for giving back to the community I would surely nominate you! Thank you for this post 😊

lol yeah thank you @daqueend!

very nice work fella, we wish you continued success in the future.

Food waste is a really big issue in the world right now. Hopefully we can find a way to not waste so much. I myself have a bad habit of wasting food.

hola amigo excelente post, te sigo saludos un abrazo

I really like what you are doing there. Rich countrys waste so much food its shocking & in other countrys they have hunger.

Id really like to see something like a more limited amount of food in supermarkets where only necessary food like bread, milk, etc. have a high supply & everything else should have a limited supply.

Because seriously who needs 100 different kinds of sausage? I dont see a problem to buy a different one if the one I wanted is sold out.
These days its so rare that something is sold out in a supermarket due to an extremely high and unnecessary supply.

I hope this will change, its super annoying to have way too much food in rich countrys compared to poor countrys which dont have enough.

你好厉害!

excellent post @reko
fresh foods and supplies that was supposed to be discarded when there are millions of hungry tiny bellies around the world? keep doing great and maybe soon when steem gets over 100$ to one, we start looking at exporting those items! thanks for sharing

Someone's dump is another one source of sustainability. You did well by reaching out to people. Nice stock

ty @funkylove!:)

Oh alot of foods and good job. Am feeling hungry

Very nice initiative :)
You are doing a great job, thanks for this inspiring blog ;)

Impressed! It's crazy how much food are getting wasted every day. We really do need to be more aware of this issue.

yes gonna work hard to do just that going forward!!:)

I often wonder about all the food restaurants throw away! I wonder what they do with them? Probably into the dumpster, right? What a shame if so...could feed so many hungry people!

I admire your heart and courage.. Its nice of you

ty!:)

Insightful post @reko. It's sad how much food is wasted in America, but as awareness increases things will change! Definitely following you to see what other sustainable practices you share. This must be resteemed to help spread the knowledge.

Woow amazing

Interesting, but aren't you concerned about things like bugs in the dumpster getting in the food? Bacteria, etc, since it's not refrigerated or completely closed off to them or animals? O.o

It's closed off to animals and here in Sweden it's cold this time of year^^

you're braver than I

This was really random. But I agree that people waste food way too often and a lot of people don't realize it, so in a weird way this was an interesting way of letting people know.

I really want to try dumpster diving at least once just for the experience.

yeah it's really exciting, try it out!;)

How many dumpsters do you usually go in? (in a days worth of searching?)

So do you actually eat the food, or just end up collecting it for the awareness, you knnow?

yes I don't buy like any food and I live in a communal house with 5 steemians so we all share it and also give away to others...

Hola amigo @reko excelente post saludos y éxito en todo lo que hagas @juan24.

awesome

You dudes are awesome, I heard about this along time ago and thought it sounds like a really good idea but I live in China and it's pretty dirty haha I don't want to get bite by the giant rats that look like cats over here :D

A surprising reality! The garbage can is a paradise.

As always the best of @reko awesome collection. Hey man have you been finding any technology while dumpster diving? Last week I found a tablet haha

Respect to you my friend. We need more voices like you to raise awareness on food wastage. Thank you

congratulation ! @reko

i cant believed, its so cool. i like it

I am of the opinion that the common saying "one man's food is another man's poison", what a great lesson learnt more grease to your elbow. keep on impacting lives.....

Dope

Wow. Imagine if the markets donated ALL of that food to a homeless shelter... Nobody would have to go Hungary. It actually upsets me that this is a problem we are facing in the world.

I am glad you're doing this. I am glad that you'll continue to do this, I have so much respect for you.

What a sad world so much waste when people are starving else where.
On our farm nothing goes to waste all left overs get fed back into the farm
between ours dogs, cats, chickens and pigs there is very little left overs for even the worms.
Nice post upvoted

I cannot believe the amount of waste! Every week my family spends $150 on groceries and these people are throwing it in the trash!! Thank you for your part in bringing this to public attention.

Sneaky Ninja Attack! You have been defended with a 14.10% vote... I was summoned by @reko! I have done their bidding and now I will vanish...Whoosh

Really good to see soo many different kind of food.....thanks for sharing
