A Red Beauty on my First Year Steemit Anniversary

The annual German Auto Club's Vintage Car Rally is a fairly massive event.

Only vintage cars are allowed into the area, everyone else is directed to a parking lot about a mile away from the event. You pay 8€ or about $10 for a ticket which covers parking and a bus to the event. As you ride in there is a long line of vintage cars making their way to the staging area, so the bus stays in the passing lane as you whiz by these fantastic vintage cars. When you get out of the bus, you can see a bit of the field where all the oldtimers are parked.

I've learned it is a good idea to go to the nearby palatial estate which all cars pass by on their way to the field to park. This gives you a chance to photograph them with a beautiful backdrop, rather than in the tightly parked field with lots of people surrounding the cars.

This seems like it must be a great hobby. There seems to be a real community spirit among the owners, the insiders come prepared and grab themselves a shady spot and enjoy the day.

When I walked around later I spotted this car again and took a few closeups.

One Year on Steemit

Thanks to @steemitboard I learned yesterday was my one year anniversary. A few days ago I got a nice surprise from @illuminati-inc when they and the voters of @curie gave me a very substantial upvote. That upvote was also a wake-up call in light of my one year anniversary.
On the one hand it was great to be recognized and rewarded for originality and quality, but on the other hand they focus on undervalued posts with a pending payout of <3$. After a year that should be (and was) a wake-up call. I'm at a crossroads. Should I continue taking the high road to futility and hoping something will change? Or should I cease posting and see how the Steemit & Steem develop, or reevaluate my approach.
So far in 2018 I've eschewed boosting my own posts, and I've never even considered a shadow account and that kind of thing. I've had a small group of cyber-friends and supporters whose content I respect and enjoy, and they are the main reason I've held out this long. Admittedly I've tried a few experimental approaches over this past year, and the resulting lack of continuity coupled with my weak social media skills is surely part of the reason for where I'm at.
For now I will continue to do posts I enjoy -- share photos and music tips. I think I will stop translating posts into German --for me the translations required a lot of time and effort, and I'm not sure folks needed them. I think I will experiment with boosting, and basically take things one day at a time.

Thanks for stopping by!

This is really a great shot of a beautiful car and it payed off, that you were thinking about the backdrop:

I'm glad, that you decide to stay for some fun and to maintain our cyber-friendship. In sight of my 2 year anniversary, I also struggle at times when I get merely $10 for 2-3 hours of work, but on the one hand, I still hope, that the Steem price will rise to $10 this year and on the other hand, the value of our communication and friendship exceeds the rewards by far :-)

Even that backdrop is somewhat difficult, some pedestrians walk through there or even stand there to photograph. Did you catch that I put Elvis, James Dean, and John Wayne heads on them ;-)

Yes that is the hope that steem with be mass adopted, I never really approached it as a social media platform, I've always had this vision of it being various internet communities within in a steem ocean -- hope that happens :-)

I agree, the great exchanges with cyber-friends about life, art, music are what have kept me here.

I saw the Elvis, Wayne, Dean.

I have also wondered if it was worth it, but what I am not getting in rewards I am getting in collaborations, contacts and inspirations. Steemit is also a platform where some of my readers are so I will keep at it. But I am looking at ways to get some more SteemPower. Maybe selling some art or making a Scandinavian voting trail...

Did you catch that I put Elvis, James Dean, and John Wayne heads on them ;-)

Haha, no I thought, it was part of the show :-))

Thank you so much, that means a lot to me. You are of course part of my small group of steadfast friends here on the platform. Truthfully, I know my experiments were not helpful to my progress. If I had simply stayed with photography posts in German and English, it would have been more effective. But honestly, I've never approached the platform as a social media platform -- that's my own fault ;-)

Sndbox was fantastic for me because it allowed me to spread my wings creatively, they were really great. So I have no regrets, and I am super happy that your posts are finally getting the credit they deserve. By the way, I like your new profile background photo!

Luckily, I banked a bunch of really fun photos of the oldtimers for future posts. It's amazing how happy those beautiful old cars make people, a lady here drove into the supermarket parking lot today in a tiny white Audi oldtimer convertible with white wall tires -- everybody was smiling and happy!

wow...that one is very shiny car @roused. I just see it on the movie, nice to be able to see your post again

Amazing all the places you've visited since you joined steemit!

Imagine that car is about 60 years old! It looks spectacular indeed.

Cool car ... I want photography this :)
