From the Deep

in photography •  7 years ago

Throughout my posts in From the Deep the creatures and images I know quite a bit about, doing research and talking to other divers and photographers however this one is a new one for me.

While diving in Saanich Inlet on Vancouver Island I came across this fascinating specimen.

Here is what I know, it pretty, its pink and its some sort of worm.

Segmented Worm-1.jpg

It walked as it moved along the reef but appeared as if it was floating due to the soft, skin like, feather like appendages
along it body. It was a very cool encounter.

If any one has encountered something similar or know what type of worn this is please let me know.

Thanks for reading.

Cool picture, I've only dove out in BC twice the dive shop next to the cruise terminal in Victoria. pretty much as soon as I jumped in i was freezing and then I saw a 5-6 ft Link Cod. That fish was huge. The next dive was out at Race Rocks diving among the kelp and sealions. I never looked at the tiny stuff but your picture is making me wonder what I missed.

Safe diving

Glad you got to drive at Race Rocks, I've dove out there many times. The sea lions are amazing but there is some incredible macro life as well.

I mainly remember everything being freaking cold. I started diving in Hawaii when I was stationed at Pearl Harbor. I got my PADI instructor card in Key West, Florida. I have not done too many cold water dives. I never want to own a 7mm. I can still feel that chill of 48F water going down my spine whenever I moved my arms. I'm waiting on getting a dry suit before I do any more cold water dives.

Very interesting! Could that be a bristleworm?

very good post

Looks like a mix between an alien worm and a flower! I have never seen this specimen before! It's a beautiful one! I would love to see it moving. Must look like a dancing underwater flower :D

Perhaps this species is a rare species or a new kind of revolution
