A bear cub, probably ten months old, has been hanging around near my sister's house in western Montana. It ought to be with its mother yet, but no mother has been seen. Still, it should be old enough to manage winter preparations by itself. Several bears have been sighted in the area this fall, both grizzlies and black bears, plus more than one mountain lion. Of course, the ubiquitous whitetail deer stroll around the neighborhood with a proprietary air, paying no attention whatsoever to humans. No shortage of varmints/wildlife exists this fall.

I love bears. I don't know why. One scared the crap out of me once while I was on a bike trail with my 5 year old daughter - it was right next to us in the brush along the trail. I screamed "BEAR" and we hightailed it back to civilization. Thanks for the memory.

I do enjoy seeing a cub, but I'd rather not encounter a full sized grizzly!

Scary! But I guess only if you are from the city, where bears are never around cause we ran them out years ago.
Nice picture, that bear does look old enough to prepare for winter, I hear its gonna be a cold one here in the states.

I suppose we all adjust to the dangers that exist where we live. I am sure there are aspects of city life that would completely freak me out!
