Jawbone Reserve
February 9, 2018: Kids and I went on a bike ride stretching the Jawbone Reserve in Williamstown. Along the bike path from Williamstown Botanical Gardens, you cross a family friendly beach. Friends who have lived in the area for over a generation say it's an artificial beach.
Once you drift from the beach, a ten minute ride along the track West Side will take you to the beautiful Jawbone Reserve. Kids love riding or walking to the reserve because the views are spectacular.
You have the the city skyline, nature, rusty refineries towards Altona side and numerous birds that visit the reserve.
Plants
The Jawbone area consists of a sandy beach flanked by basalt rock outcrops which represent the seaward end of the flows of basalt lava that characterise Melbourne's western plains.
Birds
Altogether 120 species of birds have been identified at the reserve with a number of them breeding and nesting at the site as well.
Back from the ride, I let them wander around a local market over some Kranszky and lemonade . Once we got home, they spent over 30 minutes making a magic portion from the lemon tree.
