Infrared Photography - Walking through Hamilton gardens

in photography •  6 years ago

On our first day of camping on Lake Chatuge we visited Hamilton Gardens, this place is filled with native plants from the area. My friend walked a little ahead of me and I got some great shots of these huge trees next to my friend.

I love how the tree splits half way up but seems completely okay with that. This is my entry for #treetuesday started by @old-guy-photos

We walked many of their trails, some went into the woods and others stayed on the waterline.

A shot of the tree a little closer, though I was getting flares so it was not my favorite.

Lastly the curious structure next to the tree. Not sure whats it about, maybe a sundial.

Checking out Hamilton Gardens was a great idea, we seemed to be the only ones walking the trail. I think most people were on the lake watching the ESPN fishermen. So it was nice and quiet besides the birds squawking at us.

Pretty amazing photos @solominer!! I think I must've said "wow" (to myself) on every one! ❤

@deerjay

Hah right? Yeah me too, I usually say wow when im in the photo editor setting the right white balance for the image. As it transforms the image from this foggy infrared image to something real sharp.

Solominer my friend, you absolutely killed it right there. I love these photos. The first one kinda looks like a movie scene. That angle and lighting. The second one is great too but I like the third one even better. That flare is on point. Just lit.
And the last one definitely is my favorite. The light and this interesting sculpture - simply perfect haha. I love the trees too with the dark background.

@gandalfthewhite

thanks so much, I think i am improving with every trip out to the woods with this camera. Appreciate you pointing out what you like. Yeah I see what you mean it is like a wide shot you see in a movie. And glad you like the flare, though I try to avoid them as the glare washes out the shot but sometimes they are just right.. like this one.

When I saw that sculpture I was really happy it was close to that tree, made for some cool photos for sure. I love the treeline too, shooting photos in the mountains you sometimes get some nice treelines on the hills.

You are welcome. Yes, I think so; at least seems like it. Thanks. Yeah, that is probably why it reminds me of a movie. Exactly, this flare is on the right spot.
True, these objects harmonize pretty well, sculpture and the trees.

good post @solominer, I'm impressed with your photography.

@teungkumerdu

appreciated, im impressed too. I am constantly surprised with how they turn out.

These photos almost look like a render from a 3D engine, because of the infrared filter. Amazing effect!
I especially like the last picture. The inverted contrast combined with the sharp edges create a beautiful imaginary world!

@jager567

Thats a great explanation of the image, yeah I see what you mean. I love how the leaves stick out in front of the skies, they are very sharp. And they do have that look of an imaginary dream world.

thanks for the comment!

Many interesting things can be seen there, I like your photos. Thank you @solominer.

@irwandarasyid

completely agreed, there are many abstract things going on in infrared photos. I have alot of fun finding new artifacts in my photos.

Infrared looks awesome, only if it could be possible without modifying camera sensor it would be great to give it a try oh well :/

@witkowskipawel

You can try it still on a normal camera, just the exposure times increase and the image may lack a little quality but still possible. You will need a tripod for all photos if its not modified.

Hmm never heard of that technique - how this work then?

@witkowskipawel

You would figure out what size filter you can place on your lens. And then go on Amazon to buy a set of them, they usually come in a few different wavelengths like 720 nm, 850 nm and 950 nm. Those give you different looks as they isolate different light wavelengths.

You got to set your white balence when the filters on, or your image will be all red or something like that. I use white/gray cards but you can set it to your hand, green grass or a piece of paper in a pinch.

Is this got any different result than having it in post to drop Green/Blue channels to 0?

Yeah you can correct the white balance in post too, though I like to set it as close as possible with my cameras sensor and then do an auto white balance again in GIMP (A free photo editing program) post.

Nice shot as ever! Glad to know that you are also on weku. I also have joined that platform. My account name is the same as it is here. I'll check your posts there.

@akdx

Ah sweet, I just followed you. Cool thanks and glad you like the shots.
