Wildlife photography in my front yard

in photography •  5 years ago  (edited)

While having my coffee this morning and strolling the yard I looked up in a tree and this guy was preening above me.

It's called a turkey vulture and we see a lot of them out here.

They weigh between 2 and 5 lb with a wingspan over 5 feet. It seems that at any given time you might see one of these soring over the Columbia River.

This one was about 40 feet up in a ponderosa pine tree in my front yard....watching me!

This guy didn't take his eye off me while I was taking pictures.

I heard what sounded like rustling leaves, when I looked up and saw the bird I realized that it was the bird rustling his feathers that was so noisy.

There are a couple of these chappies that roost (or rest) in our pines and if we are lucky they drop a nice feather or two.

Maybe he thought there was a chance you were going to die soon and he wanted first crack at your body? Wow, that's morbid!

You know, I got the feeling he was just chekin' in to make sure I'm not lunch yet.

He’s waiting for you to get ripe! 🤣😂
