The War on Drugs is a war on us. If you study the history, you'll discover that cannabis was made illegal on racist pretenses to discriminate against Mexicans and Nixon's policies were intentionally directed to break up anti-war activism and black rights movement leaders.
The laws and policies have resulted in the utter destruction of the Bill of Rights, especially as to the 4th amendment and property rights. See: Gonzales v. Raich 545 U.S. 1 (2005)

You understand what I'm saying? We knew we couldn't make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin. And then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities," Ehrlichman said. "We could arrest their leaders. raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did."
- former Nixon domestic policy chief John Ehrlichman

This is an easy concept to understand if you use a little empathy.
Obesity-related issues in the U.S. are enormous.
Approximately $147 billion is spent in added medical expenses per year within the United States.
Some 400,000 deaths are attributable to obesity-related causes annually.
Yet, how many people would think that the government should regulate and control what, how, and when people eat because some people are addicted to food?
If you don't think that the government should be controlling people's diet by force (and they ethically shouldn't), then you should understand that the state should not be using violence to stop drugs in the same vein because people are responsible for their actions and health.
The same goes for any other addictive substance, whether alcohol, cigarettes, or prescription medications.
Defensive force is only ethically valid for when someone is violating the bodies or physical properties of another.
