Black-browed Albatross in the Drake passage

in photography •  7 years ago  (edited)

A black-browed albatross gliding over the swell effortlessly it circled around the vessel for about 10 minutes before disappearing into the distance in its search for food. During this time of year they are typically nesting nearby on some of the surrounding sub-antarctic islands. Their search for food is for their young one waiting back at their nesting site.

They only investigate vessels for a few minutes and once they realize it is not a fishing vessel they move on. They have learnt that if they follow fishing vessels they can quite easily grab fish off the lines - basically means it's an easy meal.
