South Pole Series 05

This is the entrance to the Lemaire Channel - Cruise Ships often use it as the Gate on their way to Antarctica because of it's beauty.

Note: Sorry, my Friends, for not posting in a while. I got a bit distracted. Time flies so fast, especially in summer.

I love the strong contrast of white and black. This is likely basalt rock, though I could be wrong about that. Millions of years ago, Antarctica had many Volcanos, that produced a lot of basaltic lava. You can read a lot about that here:

Great!!

Thank you, Andy

Gorgeous! 2 questions:

  1. How cold was it?
  2. Flat Earth theory says Antartica is a giant wall that is keeping us on this side of Earth, where you able to see a giant Mountain that seemed to go on forever?

Hi July, it's not as cold as one might expect. Summer in Antarctica is from November till March. It can reach departures of up to 14°C. I can't remember the exact temperature of that day though.

About the Flat Earthers: Let's agree that they are a bunch of boneheads. Everyone can take a ship or even plane to Antarctica and see for themselves. The idea that there is a thousands of Kilometers long Ice wall with nothing behind it, is absolut nonsense. Not to forget that there is a Antarctic fight rout, for example for flight from North Australia to South America. (map on the right side)

Polar route
A polar route is an aircraft route across the uninhabited polar ice cap regions. The term "polar route" was originally applied to great circle routes between Europe and the west coast of North America in the 1950s.

Thanks for the detailed response, I was not previously aware of the Antarctic flight routes
