The June 2012 Transit of Venus

in photography •  8 years ago  (edited)

I couldn't wait for this. This only comes twice in 120 years, and the 2 times that it happens are only 8 years apart. I missed it in 2004 (didn't know about it)...

...but in 2012 I was ready.

We went to downtown Springfield, MO and went to the top of a multi-level parking garage and just fired away. I might be a bit too excited about a little black dot on the sun, but I don't think I did too bad for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, if I do say so myself. ;-)

I also managed to grab a quick video. :)

I remember that. Nice shots. We have a The Harvest full Moon & Penumbral Eclipse that just happened a few hours ago. Cheers

Excellent shots. Very very cool.

not unwow

Wow it is actually bigger than I expected. I expected a near invisible dot that might not even have shown up on camera. That is pretty clear.

Yeah, not too bad. I really wish I'd had at least a variable ND filter to set to max darkness for all the shots I wanted before the sun got to the horizon where it really dimmed. Believe it or not I was using a blank CD as a filter. They're just translucent enough. In fact, it wasn't strong enough. The sun was still bright as hell.

I can't wait for the Great American Eclipse of August 2017. I'm going to be much better prepared for that one.

Really I didn't even notice it. I didn't realise the light would go though them.

Great shots!
