If I can’t find a job as a Business Analyst, then I’ve got my next career move planned out already.
a Little collage of my potential new job
Unemployment Office
2 weeks ago I went to my local unemployment office to ensure that I’ve put all the wheels in motion once the inevitable end date has passed. However, as you might now from my previous posts, I am also pimping my CV to show the best of me, to sell my hard-skills, to stand out from the crowd and to make it an efficient document to read alongside my complete file of certificates, references and diploma’s.
Photo Studio in my Livingroom
My 'home-made' photo-studio
To have these pictures done professionally the prizes start from Chf 60, which is a lot of money. I understand its importance, but I also feel that this is something that I could do myself.
For this reason I've rebuilt my living room yesterday in a makeshift photo studio including a changing room and an impromptu light to help reduce the shadows on the wall behind me. I tried multiple effects with close-ups and distance shots, I tried outfits with a white business attire, I tried a more casual blue shirt, with or without tie, with or without jacket and even different angles.
In total I shot close to 200 pictures. Hopefully a few of them are suitable for my CV. I will choose 3 pictures in the end that I will use depending on what company I'm going to apply with. I should have a look now that suits all applications.

This is the layout that I'm going to use for my CV
Above you can the layout that I'm going to use for my CV. It really fits me and my personality. It's modern, fresh and the most important information is easily readible and I hope to stand out of the crowd with a CV like this. This CV is supposed to be an passport of who I am and what I do. What do you think?
Thanks,
Doron
@wolfje you are off to a great start but I agree with @lugano. Using a window for the light is a good idea. The purpose is to have light that doesn't cause harse shadows.
Using that flash that is on top of the camera is a bad idea but in a pinch I have used it by putting a large peice of paper in front of it to bounce light off a wall or ceiling.
Also stepping away from the wall behind you can help get rid of the shadow.
Good luck with the job search.

Thank you for your advice! I just gave an extensive answer to @lugano, but in essence I agree, this was a first attempt, but I have some ideas now for round 2. What do you mean with 'I have used it by putting a large peice of paper in front of it to bounce light off a wall or ceiling'. Thanks

The flash on top of the camera is small which causes shadows to fall off sharply.
Bouncing the flash off a wall can help the shadows fade a little more smoothly. It does this because the light coming from the wall is a larger light source than that coming straight from the flash.
Typically bounce flash is something that people do with a speed lights. I didn't see a speed light in your shot of the camera and paper is something I have used before to direct the cameras flash towards the wall when I didn't have a speed light.
A plain peice of paper will allow a little light to go through and reflect the majority of it. Angle the paper so that the reflection on the wall is at about 45 degrees to you. That should create a nice soft lighting effect.
I have only used this when I had no other option. Using a window for light would be easier and give more natrual looking results.

Thanks, I'll try that next time. I'm going to do another session after the holiday when I have a bit more of a tan 😉

Hi @wolfje good luck with the job search! I was recruiting in the past and the first thing that mattered to me was the photo.
Even before I began reading the content of a cv, I could have a feel whether I could imagine working with a person according to the picture I saw. Not exactly what one could call an objective procedure I know ;-). So I think it was a good move to put a lot of effort into some nice photos.

Thanks, yes and I will try to adjust the picture depending on the company I apply for, that way they should be more positive towards me.

Well let me be honest, you have to do still a lot of shots until you get a good one 😂. The shadows in the back are too visible and also the yellow light is not nice. Maybe you should change wall? Or in front of a window? Or you do a trip to the German boarder and get a professional one for 20 EUR. 😬

I agree with you, I was sorting through the pictures last night and there are a few good ones, but the light is an annoyance. The problem is mainly that I don't have enough wall space anywhere else to do this and to set up the camera. On the other hand I agree that proper daylight is the best. I took my pictures at 3 times throughout the day to factor in different lights. I tried with flash and without, I tried with a close camera and further away, I adjusted the ISO, but so far I still have to do some more adjustments. However I'm not unhappy about these amature results, once we're back from holiday and I have a bit of a tan I'm going to try this again. Thank you for your tips!

Yes, that was my favourite as well, but there's still that shade. I'm going to do another session once I'm back from holiday.
