I find symmetry pleasing to the eye and and this is dead simple to create in PS, 1st step; with the Rectangular Marquee Tool select an area you want, right click, layer via copy. 2nd step; Duplicate this layer and then ctrl T, right click flip horizontal or vertical, drag the second layer to align the same edge, repeat the second step two more times with dragging and aligning the layers. Pro tip if the alignment is off a bit or hard to get perfect with the mouse, select the layer you want to tweak and use the arrow keys to bump the layer a pixel at a time until it looks right

I find that converting an image to black & white can bring out the details

this is the sample image. an unlikely one to pick for this being not symmetrical in the least bit
