Rule of thirds follows a certain principle in photography where you try to frame or compose your subject by using guidelines. These guides splits the frame into 9 equal parts, 3x3. What you need to is to put the subject of your photograph within the intersection of those lines or on those lines themselves.
This would bring more attention to your subjects if they're placed that way. It really helps in creating a vision in your photographs.
