UWAIS ALQORNY
The name Uwais al-Qarani plays an important role in the mystical biography of the prophet.
"Verily I feel the breath of ar-Rahman, the breath of the Most Merciful, flowing to me from Yemen!" Thus the Prophet SAW's words about Uwais self, which later in tasawuf tradition became an example for those entering Sufism without being guided by the living teacher.
Sufis who claimed to have taken the road without formal pemba'iatan then called the term Uwaisi. They are guided directly by God on the path of Sufism, or have been ditasbihkan by the mysterious prophet's guardian, Khidhir. Uwais whose full name is Uwais bin Amir al-Qarani is from Qaran,
a remote village near Nejed. It is not known when he was born. He was born by a devout family of worship. He had never received any education except from his parents who heavily obeyed.
To help ease the burden on his parents, he works as a shepherd and keeper of wage livestock. In his daily life he is more aloof and mingle with only the other shepherds around him. Therefore, he is not known by most people around him, except the owners of livestock and his neighbor, the shepherds. His life is very simple. Clothes that are owned only inherent in his body. Every day he passes by hungering ria. He only ate dates and drank water, and never ate a cooked or processed meal. Therefore, he felt the pain of the little people around him. Not enough with his empathy, his fear of God encourages him to always pray to God: "Oh God, do not you torture me, for there are those who die of hunger, and do not swallow me because of the cold." His obedience and love to God, manifested in his love and devotion to the Messenger of Allah and to his parents, is remarkable.
In the daytime, he works hard, and at night, he is cool to Allah SWT. His heart and tongue were never unmindful of dhikr and recitation of the holy verses of the Qur'an, even though he was at work. Ala kulli things, he is always with God, in dedication to Him. Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) revealed the privilege of Uwais in the presence of Allah to Umar and Ali that on the Day of Resurrection, when all people are resurrected, the Uwais will give intercession to a large number of his people, as many as the sheep of Rabbiah and Mudhar (both known for having many sheep). Therefore, the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) recommended to them both to meet him, to deliver the greetings of the Messenger of Allah, and to ask them both to pray for both, which he described as having high and medium haired stature and having a white mark of dirham on his left shoulder and palm. Since the Prophet advised both to meet him, since then both are always curious to immediately meet with Uwais.
