The audio sounds like more of a party than it did... Listening to the Glenn Miller Orchestra (horny music) like never before, the song named String of Pearls, correcting minor glitches in transfers of the tapes, for a CD with SARS production code ADD (recording, mix, master ..type code A or D). A 1991 transfer, is better than a 2022 transfer from magnetic tape, in some ways.

The opening track of the album (The Russia House Soundtrack), is an orchestral piece that is well represented on CD, again the late eighties/ early nineties releases rarely disappoint.
I am appreciating this soundtrack, as much as Bram Stoker's Dracula ..The Russia House Soundtrack has impressive sound quality, among CDs it is better than most. Moulin Rouge was a very busy mix, that underlines the limitations of the media, the CD is fatiguing in some respects.
I am fortunate, the CDs I purchased were taped shut. I am opening them with a pocket knife, to find discs that are mint or very close. Archiving them in my computer, after cleaning them with a solution of equal parts water and wood alcohol. The older discs are scratchless also but can have a persistent dried oil-film layer, that needs to be carefully removed.
So far the Glenn Miller digital mix has the most noise, of all the CDs archived.
I had the opportunity to sit and listen to a SARS code AAD production, of Chet Baker's Grey December, including alternate takes ..that was memorable.
John Coltrane Giant Steps, a mostly AAD production with one or two digital mixes among the lot, a fantastic and well preserved ..digital-fork of the master tape, may be handy someday, to someone other than me.

I have a maximum 24-bit 192 kHz digital signal out to YouTube ..but we can hear what difference the greater bit-depth makes, till UHD 32-bit floating-point at 384 kHz. The version I found to carry forward, still has reverb and is longer than the Carnegie Hall performance ..suggesting it is the recording for the 1955 Benny Goodman Story. In any case, Sing Sing Sing with all the cymbals and reverb, is pretty incredible ..despite not being one of the most famous versions from 1937/ 38, nor the Music Hall of Fame inducted version.
Okay the B side ..I remember finding drums though the dark forest, not unlike the experience of tuning into a good signal.
Next to be carried forward into 64-bit, Manteca/ St Thomas and Thelonious Monk's ..either Light Blue or Evidence, not decided yet. The sound quality of the song Blue Monk is superior to the others ..but there is too little piano, the point is to showcase some Nazi-hunting piano jazz.

The big moment, cutting the tape, to open a four CD set by Italian producers, "Top Jazz." The CDs are dated 1989, SARS code ADD.
The first disc "Dizzy Gillespie", shiny and without finger-prints on the topside, the other side ..minor scratches over the last song or two, the rest is spotless.
I am actually going to dirty the surface and make it slightly worse by cleaning, I need to be certain the transfer is as good as possible by cleaning at least once ..even if the surface is visually without imperfection. Most discs from three decades ago, have an oil-film layer that should be removed prior to transfer and archiving.
Geez, tape, digital and vinyl noise ..love or despise the degenerated signal and introduced digital errors, the artist's recorded moments are preserved.
The minor scratches on the last track Manteca/ St. Thomas, did not seem to affect the information stored. Like I said, my only gripe is with hearing vinyl noises and pops on a CD (Gillespie/ Shaw's "Emanon") ..I also know that by the late eighties/ early nineties, the best or only remaining copies of some performances, were on vinyl. Today, I have the privilege of transferring some very nice digital forks of the master tapes, not all songs were vinyl noises ..most are decent/ good sound quality ..I mistook the first and other tracks, for AAD productions. So far, some jazz from CDs are making better online presentations, than some uploaded vinyl versions.
The song Be Bop, still had great cymbals when the CD was made.
Top Jazz Duke Ellington and his Orchestra disc, spotless on the side with optical information, film of dirt on the label side. This could be good, let's hear the recordings ..hopefully not too many lost recordings, salvaged from what sounded like the dirtiest vinyl no one else ever kept.
If there are digital noises from minor scratches in the song St. Thomas, I cannot hear them amidst such a busy mix, the artists again cover the eventual flaws ..as with drummer brushes in Glenn Miller's recordings, that conveniently cover tape noises.
The Duke Ellington and His Orchestra recordings seem good, far better than a deteriorated version on tape would be now. In 1989 there was noise on the tapes, now they must be almost entirely unusable.
Nowadays, we really have to search for recordings that have not had the cymbals filtered away, with the tape noise blocked by some circuits. I recognised a few good ones, among the Duke Ellington program ..songs that may carry forward, in an impressive way.
WOW ..Top Jazz Benny Goodman, still has the reverb and the lowest noise-floor I have ever heard for that song .."Don't Be That Way." Let's see about the other songs ..well, a decent copy of Sing, Sing, Sing ..again it has what seems like might be the original reverberating content, I hope the original sounded that good. Normally those old-timers have no reverb, the reverberation effects they did have, were spring-based ..usually, along with environmental reverbs. This is a great find for the archive. The reverb is suspiciously present for music of the particular vintage, in any case, it sure sounds good.
I feel like Benny Goodman was the bonus in that stack, no noises while the songs still have a reverb and all. Next up, Top Jazz Charlie Mingus and Thelonious Monk.
Charles Mingus recordings, they are okay ..when I heard Thelonious Monk's piano with horns, reverb, cymbals and no noise ..my first love is vinyl ..but this is really good also. Again, either the reverb was well preserved ..or that is an Italian wine cellar with a fantastic sound.
I did not realise, Whitney and Whitney Houston are two separate publications. The tape was blue, said 1987, looks a lot like the Whitney Houston CD from the same time ..the songs are ALL different. The CD has How Will I know and the Whitney tape I Wanna Dance and So Emotional. I bought the tape intending to have the tape and CD version of her debut album.
Apparently I mix like the Italians did in 1989, there is not much work for me to do with these files in terms of levels, handy.
