On placing the first finger, second finger and the thumb of the left hand mutually at right angles, the first finger points in the direction of the magnetic field and the second finger points in the direction of the conventional current and then the thumb points in the direction of the motion of the wire due to the motor force.

Flemings left hand rule is used to find the motion when the direction of the current and the magnetic field is known.

Force on the wire can be increased if ,

  1. If the current in the wire increases,
  2. If a stronger magnet is used ( getting a stronger magnetic field ),
  3. Number of loops of current carrying wire is increased.
