Do you know what the Walrus uses it's tusk for? Well if you're thinking that it's used for finding or piercing food you are incorrect. The Walrus actually uses it's tusk to brake Sea Ice, and sometimes pull their self up with them. The males tusk can grow up to 3 feet in length while the female Walrus's tusk only grows to about 2.5 feet.
Odobenus Rosmarus..this is the Scientific name for the Walrus it's Latin for "Tooth Walking Sea Horse".
To prevent oxygen loss when they are under water a Walrus can store oxygen in it's muscles. So they have 2-3 times more blood then a land mammal their size.
The female Walrus's only have 1 calf at a time which could weigh up to 100 pounds. They are very protective of their young which will stay with her up to 2 years, sometimes longer if the mother does not have another calf.
