An Important Note to All Cryptoacadamy Professors!

in plagiarism •  4 years ago

Yesterday I was tagged in a comment by @theopportunist regarding a copy of one of his crypto academy posts. I was saddened by the way the plagiarist @hyeoon had shamelessly copied the assignment task.

So, let me back up a little and explain the entire scenario. On 19th May 2021, @hyenoon submitted his crypto academy assignment for professor @levycore. This post was initially created at time 16:08.

The initial post was created at 16:08 on 19th May by @hyeoon

Then at 16:34 on 19th May, @theopportunist also submitted his own assignment to professor @levycore.

Then 2 hours later, @hyeoon edited his post, replacing his initial contents with that from the assignment of @theopportunist. To anyone not looking at these 2 posts through the account history API or steemworld, it looks like @hyeoon created the post first and @theopportunist copied it later.

However, it is the other way around.

Here is the screenshot of the original post of @hyeoon that I got using my tool scribe

Hyeoon went on to edit the entire post which is totally odd
This initial post was later edited by copying the original content of @theopportunist.

Plagiarism has been a problem that many of us are trying hard to fight against. When a user creates a post first and then later edits it by copying from someone who posted after him, it is really very hard to recognize who is at fault. This is probably the reason why professor @levycore ended up flagging @theopportunist's post as plagiarised.

I wanted to bring out this particular incident to light because not all professors are aware of the scribe tool yet. If the tool was used, @theopportunist's post would have been graded correctly.

Having to manually check steemworld or the account_history API is hard enough. Searching for a particular post or a particular edit is even harder. This is why the scribe tool can be extremely useful.

So, I request all cryptoacadamy professors to counter-check with the scribe tool if you come across an incident where a post seems to be plagiarised by an earlier post that was edited. You all can find the tool at https://scribe.steemcrypti.me

I have made a detailed post on how to use the tool over here https://steemit.com/hive-196725/@starlord28/new-tool-for-steem-or-introducing-scribe-v2

I hope we won't be facing such kinds of plagiarism in the cryptoacadamy at least from now on.

Thank you for this.

I recommend adding a comment to tag each of the professors. I've noticed that I've been tagged in posts and not received it in my notifications. I think (but am not 100% sure yet) that there's a 10 tag limit for notifications to get sent.

Wow! Had no clue about this. Commented now. Thanks.

👍 I found it strange when somebody tagged a load of people and none of us got notifications. So with a little investigating (looking at the notifications of people I'd tagged), I came to this conclusion.
