Do you Know These Plants?

in plantidentification •  6 years ago  (edited)

As I am walking around here in Ganado, I find all kinds of plants I have no idea what they are.

Truthfully, they might also be growing in California, but I am a lousy plant identifier. If I can’t eat it or know a real good use for a plant, chances are that I see it somewhere and think it pretty but have no desire to learn more about it.

I don’t have a brain that likes to remember names - of people, of plants, of everything…. Give me stories, backgrounds, and connections, I remember. Names - one ear in and out the other.

Ganado is in North East Arizona close to New Mexico to the East and Utah to the north. We are about 6300 feet above sea level.

The white flowers are on bushes - some look like small trees and they smell fantastic.

The green on reminds me of a tree I knew in Germany but I can’t remember the English name.

The yellow are so pretty!

Do you know what I am looking at?

Update

My permaculture teacher who used to live in Flagstaff and is very familiar with the flora of this area.

The one with the white flowers is Nanking Cherry- also known by a bunch of other names. The official name is Prunus tomentosa
Here is the Wikipedia entry

The green things might be Elm Samaras

Here is an article on how to eat them

And the pretty yellow flowers belong to the Golden Currant or Ribes aureum

here is more info

Good to know people that know things LOL

Yes, I know these.
The first one appears to be a fruit tree. Most likely yellow plum, those small ones or something similar. Maybe wild cherry, those have similar flowers. I had a series of post about it.
The second, the yellow one is golden shower, I'm 100% sure! We have them here, still flowering!
Wait, after a second look, it might not be golden shower after all ☹️

hahaha - I find it so very difficult. I go and search and so many pop up that could be it... Maybe, I will find a local that knows... Or, if I come back in different seasons, I will see what it up.

I agree, identifying a plant is not easy but there's an app for that that I know. It's available in play store, it's called Plant Snap.

Did an update with the identifications :)

It's interesting, at least i was right partially :)

The white one looks like sloe/blackthorn.

I am like you unfortunately, if you can't eat it I find it hard to know the name. Lol. But I did a such of the images and the following names popped up:

Cherry Blossom
Pond Pine
Marsh Labrador tea

I will check it out. They aren't cherries - I know what that looks like. But am going to google the rest.

Great 👍 you'll let us know when you find out them👩‍🎓 we are all learning 😁
