Everyday the thought of plastic lingers like a cloud without a breeze in my head. & Today is no different. More commonly talked about is the Plastic Bag, although very devastating, there seems to be an up-rise of conscious friendly people, who have converted to reusable bags, whatever their personal reasons may be, it helps a lot. I would like to focus on something a little different.

If you're like the many Americans who enjoy a tasty iced drink on a hot sunny day, you've probably already done your damage, and I'm not talking about the plastic cup it came in.

Americans alone use 500 MILLION drinking straws EACH DAY.

Drinking straws are everywhere, restaurants, coffee shops, smoothie bars, gas stations, and maybe even in your cupboard. They are used for your favorite beverages, slushies, smoothies, and alcoholic drinks. Everything taste better through a straw, right? I love using Straws! who doesn't? Earth. Earth hates plastic.

I would drink a smoothie every day with a straw, reusing maybe two or three times max before tossing it, but last year I saw a video of a turtle and a straw, and it changed me. It's pretty popular but I will share the link in case you haven't seen it.

Many aquatic animals die from consuming plastic. Straws are long and can get stuck in their throats, stomachs, and even their noses!

I couldn't stop thinking about all the damage my pitiful plastic straw was doing just because I LIKED drinking through a straw. Even if you recycle, not all of it is properly recycled. I bought some metal straws shortly after watching the video. I love them, they are super easy to clean, most come with a cleaning brush too =)

You can get Glass, Metal, or even silicone or acrylic straws that are dishwasher safe. I recently saw something about Bamboo straws too! I'm not promoting any one brand, they are all beneficial for the environment, make your own choice as to who and where to buy from!!

You have the option to spend just a few bucks that can last a very long time and impact the environment in a positive way. Its easy to cut down on plastic, you just have to try.

~ Writing this to hopefully inspire someone else to stop the plastic straw madness.
