Epilogue:

This poem you're about to read is more or less a story told in verses. It is one I consider very special because it hits a cord every single time I read it. Writing it was no different.

It is a story of two people and one every single person who reads it can relate to on a daily basis.
Enjoy

YESTERDAY'S STORY

I'm in the sandpit with you.
I've got my bucket and you've got your shovel;
Together as a team, we build indestructible castles.

I'm sitting beside you in class.
You start a joke, I finish it;
Teach can't stop the laughter bubbling inside him,
Our classmates too.

I'm at Benny's watching the beer guzzlers,
The half-naked girls,
The coke snorters,
The inebriated dancers too;
Moving arms and limbs in artfully uncoordinated harmony.

You're there in their midst
Beckoning to me to join you.
Unlike you I'm sober but I'm smiling crazily
Cos I know I'll have fun making you squirm tomorrow
When you promptly forget everything you did.

Will be back after the break...
If you will like to support me it is very simple.
Just;

  • Upvote
  • Comment &
  • Resteem.

I'm crying as I watch you say 'I do'
I close my eyes and see you puffing up your chest with pride.
As tooth after tooth fall
And puffing your biceps conquest after conquest.
You turn and say "hey, don't worry I'm still here. I'm not going anywhere"
Like you know what I'm thinking.

But then you know what I'm thinking.
You always have.
Only this time, your assurance is inaccurate.
Because now I come second.

It tears me. Literally.
That I've been shifted to the fringes.
I start a joke and you say its stupid.
I rest on my wall, at Benny's.
I look hard at the dancers, squinting,
Maybe I'll see you beckoning to me;

I don't.
You say "Benny is a dump,
Let's go to that their Chinese restaurant."
You hate Chinese and I'm allergic to it.
Or you hated Chinese and you know I'm allergic to it.

So much has changed; so much.
I was once your past, your present and your future too
Now I've become yesterday's story
I see something stupidly funny,
But I can't call you.
Because I don't know who you are.
Not anymore.
