We all thought we would be heroes
Until life broke us down
And our jobs told us our worth
7 pounds and up
For hours of our lives
And dreams fade to the mundane
Glimmer of hope
On a roulette machine
Or a chance at love or lust at the weekend
The carefree joy of youth
Crushed by the mechanical
Repetition of work
To feed the system
Ants in suits
And steal toed boots
Paying for nature
Because someone said we should
Basic human needs have a price tag
So we all dull our senses
In any way possibly
To distract us of the pointlessness
Of our daily lives
Paying for things that should be free
And in paying for things we are not
Free
No time for family, nature and true enjoyment.
Just numbing our minds
With tv, films and computer games
False ego boosts from social media
Caffeine driven days
And alcohol fuelled nights
Money is an illusion
That we give its worth
And in so lose our own value
And become just another insect
In the hive
Really true and good poem. Keep it up! :)
