Some words about Costantine Cavafy life

Constantine Cavafy ,one of the most important Greek poets of modern times. He was born and lived in Alexandria, so he is often referred to as "Alexandrinos". He published poems, while dozens still remained as drafts. His most important works were created after the age of 40.

Constantine Cavafis was born on April 29, 1863, in Alexandria, where his parents settled down from Constantinople in 1850. He was the ninth child of Petros - John Cavafy (1814-1870), a cotton merchant, and Hariklia Fotiadis, who belonged to an old the Phanariot family of great merchants and communist commissioners in Constantinople. Both these elements, the commercial property of the father and the nobility of the mother contributed significantly to the shaping of the character of the poet.

In 1932, Cavafy, who suffered from laryngeal cancer, went to treatment in Athens, where he stayed for quite a while, receiving a warm sympathy from the crowd of his admirers. Returning to Alexandria, however, his situation deteriorated. He was admitted to the Greek Community Hospital, where he died on April 29, 1933, the day he completed 70 years of life.
