I ask Nature
Why are some black and some white?
She says to me
Both have red blood

I ask Nature
Why does the cock alone crow?
She says to me
The hen is chicken-hearted

I ask Nature
Why do some bathe in want?
She says to me
They are prone to rest

I ask Nature
Why am I haunted by fear?
She says to me
That you may know prevention

I ask Nature
Why is there death?
She says to me
There is life after death

I ask Nature
Why do we part
She says to me
That we may meet again in stronger bond

I ask Nature
Why am I haunted by the past?
She says to me
That you may build a better future

I ask Nature
Why are there sorrows?
She says to me
That the beginning of joy may be identified

I ask Nature
What is life?
She hushes and says
I'm sorry but it is an answer
To the call of death.
