Poem: Your Reflection

Often times, we look down on ourselves because of people's opinions about us. We start looking at ourselves from other people's viewpoint and not from ours. Gradually our self esteem falls to nothing and then we start believing what people have to say about us. The truth is that nobody can make you feel bad about yourself except you let them. We are all special people uniquely created by God. We have to truly believe this fact to move forward.

The poem below is titled 'Your Reflection'.

Your Reflection

Your legs are not as long as a giraffe's neck
Unsatisfied you hit the deck
So what if you have a scarred face
At least thank God every part is in place

Because you don't have an hourglass figure
You don't see the big picture
You don't feel good about yourself
Because you are too busy comparing them to yourself

So what if your body is scarred
Now you think your future is marred
Because your nose is disfigured
You feel injured

Even though everybody calls you ugly
Do you really think you are unworthy?
Even if people don't notice you
Not everybody is supposed to like you

Look at yourself in the mirror
Why are you so full of sorrow?
So many people want to be like you
You're too blind to see the real you

You always want to be someone else
But you cannot be anybody else
So get a hold of yourself
Or you'll ruin your life by yourself

Because you feel you are out of proportion
You want to go for an operation
Forgetting you are created perfectly
In God's Own Majesty

Everyday you keep complaining
You have to start appreciating
You think you are just ordinary
When God made you extraordinary

What lies within is all that matters
Even if you came from the gutters
Having a beautiful mind with a beautiful soul
That should be your major goal
