Today i'd like to talk about the poetry "The Road Not taken" by Robert Frost. i guess, many of English speaking countries as a mother tongue, have already met this poetry in lots of there life. As a native Korean, I met this poem in my Korean Language course in the middle school as a translated one. This poem appeared in the section of Foreign literature. The surprising fact about this poem is it appeared as a problem set in Korean SAT in the subject of Korean Language. (Of course the translated version)
Back to content of the poem, at my first trial, i was astonished its implication and its description. It seems i was actually in forest in a yellow and try to choice which side to go. And even now(about 20 years past from then) i think this poem contains lots of implications and meaningful; the importance of choice of life, the chances of life, the leftover things etc. It reminds of my past choices and alert my present choice. This poem does not give an answer for which choice is correct(or right) but give me a room for thinking.
The life is a sequences of choices. If we choose a particular road, we can't go to other ways. Sometimes we regret our past choices or glad of our past choices. This poem particularly picks this scenes and think about ourselves again.
I wrap up my post by attaching the poem.
If you know some impressive poem, please let me know.
The Road Not Taken
By ROBERT FROST
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference
오늘은 감명있게 읽었던 Robert Frost 의 'The Road Not taken' 의 시를 한편 소개 하려고 한다.
