[Poem - With Recitation] - Hope Peeks Thru

The montage of your history, the best and worst that life can bring,
Stretches back so very far, you can’t remember everything.
The minutes strung together trace your journey throughout time,
Surviving past inclement skies to journey thru fairweather's clime.

Here a bit of happiness, there some sadness seen, it's true,
As time unwinds its' magic cord, to show what life has given you.
Beloved hours, cherished days, shiny pearls upon a string,
Revealing past and future joined together, by precious moments in-between!

Dark times painted with regret are streaked with gladness' shining tears,
As 'round the edges hope peeks thru, mixed with half-remembered fears.
So gratefully you hold the moment, feel bitter-sweetness for awhile,
Knowing that, despite some strains, your heart is whole--you still can smile.

True...Just Awesome...Touch my heart 😍

I am gratified! Thank you for your feedback.

Thanks for the poem. I love that you're recording and posting recitations too! You've inspired me to start reading my own poems into the mic, which I've been procrastinating for some time :)

Thanks! I look forward to listening!

You are a true poet if I ever saw one ;)

Are you doing this only for a hobby? From reading some of your works, I think you have what it takes to do this professionally as well. Of course that, perhaps, also has its downsides...

I am not getting so much feedback from some of the poems I wrote and would really appreciate your insight. Maybe even some tips to improve them :)

Hello and thank you! I am not a professional, not by a long shot. Just always felt a connection to the phrasings and rhythms and feeling-tones of poetry. I think I remember being moved by Shakespeare, way back in my late teens. I didn't understand much of what I was reading, but I enjoyed reading it, especially out loud. I discovered that I loved the texture, the feel of poetic language. I guess that's the magic of poetry.

Anyway, most (90%) of the poetry I've posted so far was written long ago, back in my late teens and early twenties (I am 58 now). When I started my Steemit journey I wondered what I might be able to share on a semi-regular basis and thought I might post some of my old poems. After doing that for awhile I felt inspired to try to come up with some new stuff, of which the poem "Hope Peeks Thru" is an example.

I don't feel qualified to give out advice, but I can tell you what I'm doing right now: I think about how I'm feeling at the moment, or I'll recollect how I felt at some other time in my life. I may even imagine I'm experiencing someone else's feelings (could be a real person, could even be a character in a movie or a book I'm reading). I've also found that music can be quite helpful in priming that emotional pump.

So, I'll spend some time with that feeling, forming the strong intention that my mind should come up with some words that relate to it, that express some kind of reaction to it. If I'm lucky a few words will pop up, enough to get started. Then the work of writing begins--to tease out a little story or a message that kind of summarizes or sums up the essense of that feeling.

Sometimes it's easy and quick, other times it's a grind. If fortune smiles, I'll eventually have something to show for the effort, other than scratched-out lines on a notepad. That's basically my process.

I have read some of your poems and enjoyed them. You have your own voice, your own style and I applaud you! And when I look at your blog I see that you are more engaged with the community than I am! I'm betting it'll be just a matter of time and more and more people will recognize what you're doing.

Really great story @bhmcintosh

wow, thanks for that detailed response :))

I appreciate your humility, but really, you are quite good ;)

I am looking forward to reading more of your poems; I quite like that you have decided to make a voice over of them--really unique in that way!

And what about the mandalas, did you make them yourself?

I use Sam England's "Easy Mandala Generator Software."
