I wrote a lot of poetry back during my undergrad days, but once I found that I enjoyed doing fiction more, I never picked it back up (despite filling a huge notebook with well-transcribed versions along with accompanying images). Since Steemit seems to have a thriving (and growing) poetry community, I thought I'd add a little fuel to that particular fire. I hope you enjoy :)
He beat angels
in a sacrilicious
way that told God
he was interested
more in fornication
than salvation
and then used their hair
to restring each harp
to ring discordant
at the gates,
a Symphony for Peter in D.
He stroked their wings
in derision, licked his lips
to break their faith
and started plucking feathers
one by one
as if to tempt a slow damnation.
Blood beading up on withered wings,
forgiveness fresh upon the lips,
God looked down, amused,
and restrung every harp
inciting sunshowers
and absolution
as the armada of angels
spread new sets of wings.
His hand recoiled at the vision,
eyes squinted at the sight
as the armada of angels
responded in kind.
