I wrote a lot of poetry back during my undergrad days, but once I found that I enjoyed doing fiction more, I never picked it back up (despite filling a huge notebook with well-transcribed versions along with accompanying images). Since Steemit seems to have a thriving (and growing) poetry community, I thought I'd add a little fuel to that particular fire. I hope you enjoy :)
I slept away winter
in a hibernation of avoidance
to prepare for spring awakening,
finding time to describe
to the deaf
the beauty in arpeggios
through hollow tapping,
hand clapping
and the concept of notes
built from mental landscapes.
The construction of fingers
into alphanumeric
shapes and meanings
will never ring as true
as the nuanced
sparrow’s chirp at dawn
or the funeral knells
of church bells rung
to send a spirit home
among noiseless clouds
hell-bent on racing
in forever-nevered circles
of hemispheric marathons
where sun and moon meet
in a silent symphony
of broken sky
and staccato constellations
signaling morning on the mend.
