Stupid Love Poem

in poetry •  7 years ago

Love was a flaming dove.
It glided on gilded wings
Far up and above
And through my mind.

There perched it sings
A burning old tune
For so long it stings,
And lingers on and on.

Love was a creeping snake.
It coiled around my throat,
And of sour aches
It whispered in my ear.

And love was just a word
For a fleeting feeling,
Always exiting unheard
And leaving broken remains.

Love is the flaming dove,
Soaring high and above.
Love is the coiling snake
Full of hell and aches.

And love is a word,
Oft spoke and seldom heard.
But if you listen, you'll hear
More than a word in your ear.

The song that goes on and on
Even when the singer's long gone.
