Distant Galaxies (Is there anyone out there?)

in poetry •  7 years ago

Hello? Is there anyone out there?

I've wondered since I was a child if there was life in the universe other than human. I would stare up at the stars at night and wish I could leap up and leave the planet to go and explore.

What would they look like?
What would they eat?
Would they be that different from us?

I always thought about alien life in terms of human life. That is that they would be sort of shaped like us, have eyes and a mouth and hands and so on. Perhaps they would, perhaps not.

I still maintain however that alien life would have some similarities. Some things are just universal concepts, like a need for love and stability. It's from this place that I wrote the following light hearted poem, Distant Galaxies.

Distant Galaxies

Alternate realities
Span out across the galaxies

Little green men in floating cities
Governing moons on executive committees

Odd creatures in dancing embrace
Surviving cold winters in outer space

Large suns heating strange worlds according to the season
The natives celebrate with ritual and festival for no other reason

Life across the distant horizon is eerily the same
To a small place called Earth three planets from the big flame

Is my twin out there somewhere across the universe
What if he looked just like me, that would be so perverse

Although different some things are universal
The struggle to survive, love and happiness don't require rehearsal

We would fit right in alongside our far galaxian neighbor
I hope finding each other ceases to be such a labor

Your open minded spirit is so fascinating. This is going to sound bizarre my son who is 34 now from the day he was born he seemed to just have a knowing. He could talk at 8 months old (one word here and there) about 11 months old he said his first sentence and I swear this is the gospel truth he said plain as day "Aliens are green" my husband and I almost fell over. Over the years we have come to realize he just knows and we listen. Thanks for sharing.

That's a great story about your son. Thanks for sharing it. I love stories like that.... :)

I sometimes think about -
Is my twin out there somewhere across the universe
What if he looked just like me, that would be so perverse
