5 Eclipse Haikus.png

I wanted to share the 5 Haikus that I wrote during the eclipse in Oregon last Fall. I decided to write Haiku poetry during the eclipse because of something the Astrotnomist camping at the campground told my family and I the night before:

Don’t view the eclipse through your iPhone. There will be many people with better equipment than you, and they’re excited to share their images and videos with everyone. Trust me, you’re never going to forget what you see here tomorrow.

So I decided the best way I could record the event was in my words, because that's my sharpest medium. I'll show some photos, too, of the campground the night before because where I viewed the eclipse was amazing (Airlie Vineyards, in Monmouth, Oregon).

Haiku I: Waiting for the Total Eclipse

Two dragonflies flirt
Under electric tea lamps,
Dry thistles swaying.

Haiku II: Waiting for the Total Eclipse II

Horsetails, wild oats, and
Queen Anne’s Lace climb the slope of
The blue morning shade.

Haiku III: Partial Eclipse

A partial eclipse-
The sun is an old lightbulb
In an empty room.

Haiku IV: Partial Eclipse II

The sun is half gone.
Light cooling in the valley
Picks up the cold breeze.

Haiku V: Partial Eclipse III

Barely there, the sun
Is a thumb with fluorescent
French-tip manicure.

Thanks for taking the time to read my Haiku poetry. I like the idea of having more poetry on my steemit blog, because I am a nationally published poet (Haiku especially). But then again, I know people mostly follow me for my photography, so maybe this format- blending the two into one post- is best? Let me know what you think, dear reader!

OMG! This is SUCH an AMAZING post! Thank you for sharing! I gave you a vote!!

Thank you! I'm really glad you liked it. I had a great time writing these.

I think it's a great idea to combine these two talents. I particularly like Haikus because they are respectful of the reader's time.

Thanks for the feedback! I do really haikus- much of the poetry I write in the past couple of years has been haiku. I'll keep posting them and try exploring the combined method.

And I will follow you!

I appreciate it! I followed you as well.
