The markets all just melted
The money all went poof
Another well-dressed banker
Is jumping off the roof
Retirees can’t retire
And play their rounds of golf
No vacation in the islands
The money just walked off
But was it really there?
Those digits on the screen
Now that the screen is blank
What did it really mean?
A chance to offer nothing?
Back into the world
Counting all your days
Watching them unfurl
Sure there are the grandkids
Bouncing on your knee
Watch them smile and giggle
Filled with joy and glee
Their curiosity boundless
The toys go in their mouth
Testing all the boundaries
East, West, North, and South
Until we put the harness on
And tell them to fly straight
Time to pick a major
The fun will have to wait
Until you’re in your sixties
Or later if you doddle
No time for that skateboard
You better hit the throttle
Put your money in the market
Invest in someone else
Trust in all the talking heads
And never trust yourself
They are so much smarter
That’s why they’re on TV
Laughing over coffee
Instead of you and me
So stack up all your zeros
Invest them at the bank
Don’t start your silly business
You’ll have me to thank
For imparting all this wisdom
That was handed down to me
When I was drinking coffee
