Entire Cities, Like Children

We became still
As though
Sleep had come.

Nestled calm, comfortable, contented
So well aspected,
With just enough tension
To coax
growth
And perhaps evade that pleasant acceptance.
So known for wearing
Even the most brilliant, beautiful people
Into feeble
Apparitions.
Have you begun to wear so young?
I will rustle you from slumber
My sweet, sleepy dreamer
and shake myself in the process.
With a vision both gilded and gritty
We may view life honestly,
Unswayed by the 95 around us.

And
We remained still
As though sleep would come.
Until the gathering gold waves
Accrued,
And made
Necessary movers of our weight.
Sleepwalk through the mess.
Entire cities, like children,
Acting out for attention.
Your presence a surprising ease-
New, leveling.
Until we climbed back together
And maintained

Still.

As sleep had come.
